Vista 32 bit does not recognize my XBox 360 controller. Driver installed. Any ideas?
Hi there. I’ve installed the drivers from Microsoft and XBCD for my standard XBox 360 controller, and yet my Device Manager as well as the Control Panel for Game Controllers do not recognize the controller.
When I plug it in via Play n Charge, I can turn the Xbox button on, but the PC doesn’t respond, and the light just blinks arbitrarily.
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to this problem?
Thanks in advance!
The drivers are not for the controller, per se. The drivers just allow you to charge the controller using the computers USB port.
The only way to use a wireless 360 controller on Vista is to buy the wireless gaming receiver.

The PC won’t respond when you press the Xbox button, because it is trying to connect wirelessly to the last device it synced to. (Usually the 360 itself)
It’s ironic, but the 360 wired controllers are plug and play and are immediately available to be used on the computer. Wireless controllers, only with the receiver. Play and charge cables only charge.
